Why is Negative Ions so Important Today?

Negative Ions – Fundamental Biological Electric

Normal activity of human body requires biological electric. This fundamental component of life determines the needs to continue replenishing our body with electrical energy (i.e. Negative Ions). Here are some examples to help you to understand what biological electric is:

Diagramatic illustration of biological electricity:

Cell membrane potential   Nerve impulse transmission

Resting potential :~ 70 mV   Nerve impulse transmission is an electrical phenomenon. Transmission is through the changes in cell membrane potential.
Uneven distribution of ions inside and outside of cells results in electrical potential of cell membrane, one of the major factor in controlling in & out of substances.

Under normal condition, our body has balanced ions for optimal functioning. However, our body is deprived of negative ions due to modern and increasing hectic lifestyle today.

Why Do Our Body Lack of Negative Ions?

1. Enviromental Pollution

Our living environment has been severely polluted. Increasing exposure of body to electromagnetic radiation (EMR) environment, allowing us to live in an environment with high concentration of positive ions.

Countless chemicals that create and accumulate positive ions:

1. Use of chemicals e.g. preservatives & solvents for household items & furniture
     including paints.
2. Tremendous use of synthetic materials like plastics and synthetic fiber (e.g.
     Nylon, polyester & Rayon).
3. Dust & smoke – land clearance, emission by industry and automobiles, open
     fires, increasing smoking population etc.

2. Increasing Free Radical Sources

Free radicals are particles with single electrons which are unstable and highly reactive and deprive negative ions from our body. Environmental pollutants, burned/roasted meat and heavy metals, once entering human body, producing a lot of free radicals. High energy radiation (ionizing radiation) e.g. UV and X-ray also result in production of large amount of free radicals. In human body, they are capable of causing cell injury and death, and also causing DNA damage. It is known that free radical is the major cause of premature aging. It has also been proven that free radical is highly correlated to more than 200 diseases and most of them are chronic diseases.

3. Natural Aging Process

Natural aging process results in our bodies producing less and less of the vital factors in fighting with the bacteria and virus. In addition to that, the cell membrane potential becomes less as we aged. Natural antioxidant mechanism (SOD) in our body too has reduced function as we aged. Scientists have studied and concluded that : after the age of 20, we should replenish the electrical energy (in the form of negative ions) to increase the total count of negative ions in our bodies.

4. Reduced Function of Body Immune System

The immune capability of people living in today’s modern world has generally dropped. Recently WHO has announced on the health condition of population today: there are 75% of population who are considered under sub-health condition, 20% with diseases, and only about 5% of the population are healthy. What are the reasons for this ?

- Mental & emotional factors causing imbalanced autonomic system.
- Overwork.
- Inappropriate and imbalanced eating style.
- Unhealthy living lifestyle : alcohol drinking & smoking, lack of exercise.
- Environmental pollution causing pollution of food, air and water.
- Overuse of antibiotics and mutation of viruses today to more dangerous species.

5. Increased Infectious Diseases

Many new infectious diseases have been identified in the world in the last few decades. There were more than 40 newly emerged infectious diseases that never exist before over the past 30 years. Examples are HIV/AIDS, mad cow disease, Ebola disease and SARS. The outbreak of Nipah disease in year 1998 and SARS in 2003 have been terrible experiences to us that we can never forget.

The following types of diseases have a trend in increasing in the next few years. Worldwide infectious disease with increasing trend:

1. Digestive diseases e.g. food poisoning, dysentery and typhoid.
2. Diseases infected via insects e.g. malaria and dengue.
3. Tuberculosis, AIDS, venereal diseases etc.

Malaysia infectious disease with increasing trend:
1. AIDS /HIV.
2. Tuberculosis.

Despite the improvement and development in medical treatment services, and reduction in poverty to certain extent, the number of cases in these two diseases is still on the rise according to the report. These two diseases are the main death causes amongst the infectious diseases in Malaysia. The main reason contributing to this is the social factor e.g. poverty at remote area and drug abuse.

As a result, we are facing a more challenging era with more emerging infectious diseases, more polluted environment, and more stressful lifestyle, and we actually make more and more demand on our own body and state of mind. Negative ions are becoming more vital with this threatening living environment. It is very important that you protect yourself with large amount of negative ions!
